Praise Him all Ye People!

Praising God

One of the unique and amazing experiences we have as the children of God is the opportunity to praise Him. Among many reasons that God warns against idolatry is that in worshipping and praising that which is false,(such as material goods or money) we do damage to our souls and our view of who God really is. We will find ourselves always striving to appease an angry Taskmaster who will never be satisfied.
Another purpose of our worship is to transfer glory from ourselves as the creation, to Him who created. It is important for us to understand that God does not need our praise and worship to exist. He seemed to get along fine before the world was. However, God in His wisdom knows that we have a penchant for collecting praise and worship from men for things we have done or made. This is truly the basis for idolatry, for in worshipping what we have created we ultimately worship ourselves. This is a disaster for humans and societies .(Romans 1:21-3)*
God declared that He inhabited the praises of His children (Israel). For in this they were able to see Him as He is and worship Him in Spirit and truth,(Jn 4:23) * which is what He truly seeks for us. Praise Him!

* 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

4:23
*But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father bin spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.

About Rick McMichael

BA. Biola University, MDiv. Talbot school of theology many moons ago...really does not matter....school just provided tools to keep digging, asking, seeking, knocking. I see thinking as a daily excercise. Albert Einstein said, " I have no special talent, I am only passionately curious". I am no Einstein but my little brain still buzzes around at the speed of light :)
